TV stars to shine at 2023 Clarence Valley Camp Oven Festival

The 8th Clarence Valley Camp Oven Festival is set run over the long weekend of 9th to 12th June at Nymboida Camping and Canoeing in Nymboida NSW, promising a packed entertainment line-up for families and lovers of the great Aussie outdoors.

This year’s star turn is undoubtedly the ABC star presenter Costa Giorgiadis who, along with his mate scrapboy, will appear as Costa the Garden Gnome. Together they dive into their grubby bucket to inspire kids through a series of workshops, games and creative outdoor activities to nurture their love for the natural world.

Festival Creative Director Laena Stephenson said that Costa’s involvement was funded in 2022 by a Festivals Australia grant and that due to last year’s postponement, this was carried over to 2023.

“We’re delighted to welcome Costa to the festival for the first time – he’ll be there all weekend and when not appearing as his dirtgirlworld character, will be giving a talk on deep ecology and everyday activities we can engage in to connect with nature, nourish ourselves and live in balance with nature.”

On the live music bill are We Mavericks, Brodie Buttons, Billie-Jo Porter, Gumbaynggirr and Barkindji singer/songwriter Manduway, Funkatu, Out of Abingdon, Majelen and many more artists including some long-standing festival friends.

This year’s secret discovery is Gordon Dedman, founder of Bushcraft Survival Australia, who will be sharing his extensive knowledge of bushcraft and living in harmony with nature in a series of six festival workshops. Gordon is one of Australia’s most sought-after survival experts and was head consultant on SBS’s Alone Australia.

Event Manager Phil Nicholas said that there are two main ways to enjoy this festival, “for the full long weekend experience, book the Festival Package, comprising three nights’ camping and festival entry.”

“The other way is to attend on Saturday for the Family Gala Day – we have a very good deal on offer for families and everyone, from the youngest kids to Mum, Dad and grandparents will find something of interest, with entertainment running from 8am to 10pm.”

As per the festival’s name, there will be camp oven cooking demonstrations and competitions running all weekend, with opportunities for festival-goers to buy and sample food on Saturday lunchtime.
