Saturday is Family Gala Day at Camp Oven Festival

Saturday 10th June is Family Gala Day at the 8th Clarence Valley Camp Oven Festival. The annual event held at Nymboida Camping and Canoeing in Nymboida offers a whopping day of entertainment for families and lovers of the great Aussie outdoors.

While the big folk focus on the art of camp oven cooking, Costa the Garden Gnome and his best mate scrapboy dive into their grubby bucket to inspire kids to nurture their love for the natural world through a series of workshops culminating in the Grubby Bucket Show.

Then it’s time to hop on board the ship to receive pirate training from Captain Willy Wooden Eye, Horatio Nose-Blower and the horrendous tyrant Polly Wanna-Cracker. Learn how to talk like a pirate, how to handle sea sickness and sing along with some hilarious sea shanties.

If you’re a fan of Alone Australia, you’ll no doubt be keen to gain valuable insights into bushcraft survival skills from expert instructor Gordon Dedman from Bushcraft Survival Australia. Learn practical outdoor self-reliance skills in a series of festival classes, held under a parachute.

Meanwhile down at the Cooking Fires, seasoned camp oven cook Guy McIntosh is offering coaching sessions to help you cook your own camp oven dish (BYO camp ovens and ingredients), our demonstrators share tips and recipes while preparing dishes that will be sold at lunchtime from the Big Shed kitchen – first in, first served!

Creative Director Laena Stephenson said, “The Family Gala Day entry price also includes morning meditation, ukulele lessons, bush poetry competitions, face painting and body art, vine branch orb weaving workshops, yarning in The Circle Tent from a forest campaigner and a zero-waste expert, hydro power station tours and guided nature walks.”

Family Gala Day entry is just $15 per adult, $5 per child or $40 for a family ticket. All activities and entertainment, except food, are included in the entry price.
